Battlefield V – Great MBT debriefing

In short, this is a typical beta from DICE. With a bunch of bugs and completely unstable network functions. However, series veterans did not see anything new in this approach. We all remember the disastrous launch of BF4

Two maps for beta test

Narvik and Rotterdam were presented

We saw Narvik back in alpha, since then the map has not changed. Beautiful, but not the most pleasing to the eye, they just tightened up the optimization. But the overabundance of snow on the map remains a problem.

New map Rotterdam, similar to "Seine Crossing" from BF3 and "Amiens" from BF1. It turned out to be much more pleasant to play on it than on Narvik, not least because of the lack of snow flying into the screen.

I’ll start with how BF5 generally tries to differ from all the old parts of the series.

Fortification system. Based on the first vague presentations, the new feature seemed like an unnecessary crutch that no one would really use. Fortunately it turned out not quite like that. The result is excellent mechanics that directly affect combat tactics. With an almost completely destroyed position, it’s nice to be able to surround yourself with shelters. This is a useful innovation that adds a pinch of tact to the typical chaos of battlefield. At the same time, the trio does not look overloaded. Everything is restrained and more or less authentic. All classes are capable of building, but the Heavy Support can build more and faster.

No old 3D spot system

Finally DICE cut out the poor system for blind casuals. It was precisely because of the 3D spotting that it was sometimes not comfortable to play old battlefields. And it felt like it was impossible to hide on a huge map, someone was always seeing you. Anyone who mindlessly pressed the “Q” key used to be able to tag someone from the enemy team at absolute random. This ruined all tactics and immersion in gameplay at the root. Now only a sniper with special skills can mark in this way. equipment. The rest were given a replacement in the form of a spot at a certain point.

This is one of my favorite innovations. In previous parts of the series, players like me had to constantly look for “hardcore” servers where auxiliary interface elements were disabled. Naturally, there were few of these servers, and at certain points in time they were either filled to capacity due to the small number, or were empty. Finally, the mindless clicking of the “Q” button towards the enemy has been removed and hopefully forgotten for the battlefield series forever. Now players need to look around, check corners and hills, think with their heads, and not mindlessly run to where there are no red arrows, and shoot where they are. Those who don’t like this just need to learn to take advantage of their new position. After all, they don’t see you in the same way that you don’t see enemies, start listening to sounds and thinking ahead where enemies might come from in different situations. Now you are alone with yourself without crutches and extra markers, start playing safer and more thoughtfully.

Adequate ballistics

An adequate shooting system has returned to BF5, I wouldn’t say that in BF1 the random spread was very disturbing and disturbing. But the fact of its absence, and the fact that now the bullet flies exactly where the front sight is aimed, pleases. Shooting and character movement are classically at a high level.

Renaissance for everyone

Now all players on their team can resurrect each other. The only difference is that the medic does it in 2 seconds, and the rest of the classes do it in 5-6 seconds. Coupled with the new revive system, when a mandatory animation is played at the moment you are vulnerable, this is a pretty big difference. Reworked resurrections are an excellent solution to the problem of instant respawn of allies. We all remember how it happened: a medic ran through with a defib and simply raised people under machine-gun fire who were immediately dead.we didn’t even have time to get up. Now such a trick will not work, at the moment of resurrection you yourself are very vulnerable, you will no longer be able to poke a difib while running and run further.

You can replenish your portable first aid kit and ammo at stationary warehouses scattered around the map, or request it from a medic or support.

Well, you can still collect ammunition from a corpse. At the same time, it is impossible, as before, to throw a first aid kit on the ground and be treated while simply being within its radius of action. Now you can’t throw small first aid kits on the ground at all.

You can throw medical packs like a machine gun, but strictly at allies and only to those who do not have a first aid kit with them or are not in full health. Large first aid kit acts as a stationary refill station. The fighter must take the medical bag from there himself if necessary. This mechanic makes you appreciate life more and not feel like an immortal Rambo, just sitting on medpacks like before. Now the process of healing and returning to battle will require action from the player. And take a little longer. This change has an impact on gameplay speed, but is not as critical as it might seem.

Network functions

And this is where the problems begin. In beta, the network functions of creating a party with friends practically do not work. Attempts to assemble a group and log into 1 server can last for hours. To roll out such a crude system to the general public, you either need to have great courage, or simply not respect the audience. Due to the fact that party selection did not always work, I just had to go to one server through a browser, which, by the way, also worked every once in a while and not for everyone. And when entering the server, there is no way to change the team! You go with friends and hope that you will be lucky to end up on the same side or not. If you’re unlucky, play as is, or spend another hour trying to gather a party on a non-working system.

In general, it’s a lot of fun, DICE is focusing on teamwork between players in the game and releasing an open beta, where you simply can’t play normally with your friends. I’m not talking about all the other minor bugs inherent in typical alpha-beta versions. This should be fixed at release anyway. At least I hope so.

I can’t help but pay attention to Swedish tolerance and love of diversity. This is a very funny moment. You yourself know that in the new part we will find a complete stuffing of various customizations, various racially and gender correct characters. And at the moment in MBT everything is only half so. It was fun to discover what kind of British troops there are, representatives of various genders, nations and cultures running around. I wasn’t surprised here.

Visual design

I have a lot of questions for the artists. What’s wrong with you? I don’t understand why the cards are overexposed and too contrasty. The light areas are too overexposed, the dark areas are so dark that you cannot distinguish all the racially loyal Britons settled there. Why does the winter map from BF5 look so acidic and eye-rolling?? I mean brightness-contrast ratios. What the hell, and who is responsible for such a decision?? Why did the DICE LA division in BF1 make beautiful winter maps that look natural, are pleasing to the eye and don’t make those eyes bleed from too much contrast and color?.

Based on the first two maps, the visual style of BF5 is perceived ambiguously. And even repulsive. There is absolutely no immersion in the atmosphere of World War 2. How, after the stylish and atmospheric maps in BF1, you can give out such an awkward star, I just don’t understand. Let’s hope for the best.

There are also flaws with the technology; tanks in BF5 do not inspire any threat. Absolutely clumsy and extremely vulnerable to any adequate squad of enemies.

To rotate the tower, one maximum speed was set. And this is a good decision. This is done in the same War tunder and other tank shooters. But there is one BUT. It’s convenient to play in 3rd person, you turned the camera and waited until the muzzle was brought to the center, normal mechanics.

When you turn on the 1st person view, you feel like you’ve been fucked here. The “turn the camera, then the muzzle will adjust there” system no longer works here. In 1st person mode, the camera is rigidly attached to the target designator. And we get involuntary jerks of the muzzle up and down when turning from side to side.

This is the most uncomfortable aiming from 1st person. As an avid tanker in BF4, I was simply burned out. How can you do this when the market is full of examples with the same feature, but correctly implemented and not causing pain?. Difficult to spy? DICE, if EA keeps you enslaved in a closed basement without access to the Internet and forces you to do battlefields, give me a sign!

Upgrading weapons

Here we come to the biggest disappointment, weapon upgrades. Anyone who was waiting for the return of the old modular pumping, you can be free, it’s not here. The system is a tree of certain perks that are purchased for currency. Standard perks: spread, recoil, fast reload, etc.d. As for sights and body kits? Now it’s just cosmetics and doesn’t affect the behavior of the weapon.

Upgrading with perks is quite one-sided and simple. Previously, in BF4, players had to choose one thing. Set the muzzle brake for vertical recoil, or for horizontal recoil. Now there is no such problem, in perks you can buy a reduction in both vertical and horizontal recoil. At the same time, visually the weapon can not be changed.

In terms of visual customization, only the sights are interesting, the rest is just garbage.

This system was made intentionally in order to be able to attach a donation system. Make players shell out for beautiful skins and different upgrade options. After all, you can’t cancel pumping, you want to pump the barrel? Buy a new one and download it from another branch. No currency? Pay money. Good game for 3 thousand, isn’t it?

Judging by the current state of the beta, the game needs to be postponed for at least six months. How many other promised features have not been implemented?? Drag allies’ bodies, shootable surfaces and much more.

In the end, I just want to say that if you are not familiar with the Battlefield series, then you should not pre-order the game if you do not want to be disappointed. And it’s better to buy after discounts, which I’m sure will be very soon after the release.
