Since the start of auto production on the assembly line, piece assembly has existed only as a status rattle for the powers that be. Whose circulation is smaller, which model has more unique options for the most sophisticated buyers, from what precious metal is the plate with the signature of the person who assembled the engine – in all these and many other disciplines, supercar manufacturers compete in order to stand out from the competition. And if you are expecting me to say: “But our hero today is not like that.”!" – in vain. Pagani, like everyone else, has sinned and continues to sin in this matter, but first things first.
Our Italian automaker truly stands out for a number of technical nuances acquired in the process of its birth and formation. First of all, Pagani, upon closer inspection, seems like a real carbon fiber cult. Thanks here it is worth saying to the past experience of the company’s founder – Horacio Pagani. Having started his journey into the auto industry as a sales consultant at Lamborghini, he later headed the composite materials department there, and then founded his own company engaged in developments in this area – Pagani Composite Research. The next step is the creation of Modena Design, a company engaged in the development and creation of various types of cars and prototypes using composites. Of course, given Pagani’s experience in this matter, his former employers, Ferrari, and many others soon collaborated with him.

This is how the Pagani Automobili company appears (a very simple name for the Russian ear, isn’t it??). The year was 1992, if anything. Connections, dear friends. And now we come to two more distinctive features of cars of this brand – engines and names. On both points, the machines again owe to the past of their creator. Horatio received approval for the supply of engines through his friend and patron, racer Juan Manuel Fangio. The future supercar manufacturer met the latter while working on a Formula 3 car, when he was still living in Argentina. It’s no surprise that two Italian emigrants found common ground. Horatio wanted to name the first model in honor of his long-time friend – Fangio, but the driver did not live to see the release of the car, and out of respect for the memory of the great, the name was changed to Zonda. It was said above about Argentina? So, this is the name of the Argentine wind. Actually, from that moment on, it was decided to name all Pagani models, one way or another, tying them to the theme of winds.
This is how the Zonda C12 appeared, the engine of which was discussed above. I would also like to add that the mass of the car body was only 1250 kg, which, with such power, allowed the car to accelerate to “hundreds” in less than 4 seconds. And now we’ll speed up a little to get to the present day without getting lost in thought throughout the text.
In 2005, the Zonda F was released (“F” means Fangio). Redesigned body design, more power, higher speed, available in roadster version. 2009 – Zonda Cinque and Zonda R. In the case of the first – an extremely small edition, five coupes and roadsters each (Cinque – “five” from Italian). But even more important is the body material, a new development from Pagani – carbonanium (derived from “carbon” + “titanium”), whose name speaks for itself. In essence, as Pagani has already done, faster, lighter, stronger. The Zonda R is a purely track car, the peak point of development of the model. They are not allowed on public roads, but they are not allowed to participate in races as a prototype either. In short, the perfect car to declare: “I’m rich and I want everyone to see it.”!"Or not quite ideal.
No. Firstly, because there were still a lot of unique modifications of various “Probes”, made to order or for some event (gold throughout the body on top of carbonanium? why not?). Secondly, in 2011, the Pagani Huayra (“Uayra”, damn it) was born! There is no Freudian subtext there!), named after the god of the winds of the South American Aymara tribe. A fundamentally new model, which to this day is the company’s flagship, truly blew the minds of many (including the author of this text). And there was something. AMG strained and created a unique 6-liter V12 with twin turbocharging to replace the previous naturally aspirated engines, and they still install it exclusively on the Uayra. The engine is capable of 730 liters.With. and 1100 Nm of torque, which, with a car weight of 1350 kg, allows you to jump over the first “hundred” in three and a penny seconds.
Of course, this is a carbon sculpture on wheels. Monocoque made of carbonanium, subframes and body panels made of carbon fiber – that’s the whole diet. But the active aerodynamic system deserves special mention. As you can see from the photo, the car does not have pronounced wings. However, upon closer inspection, two flaps become visible (plus two more in the tail, hidden behind the air intake in the photo). It is they, under the control of a computer and electric drives, that, depending on the surrounding conditions, rise and fall in such a way as to create optimal downforce at each individual moment in time.
Wires were riveted from 2012 to 2017 in the amount of 20 pieces per year and at a price of 1 million euros for each. There were, of course, “charged” versions, roadster versions and other variations on the theme. But the fact remains – the model was released, sold out and flaunts in the “Real” section on the company’s official website. And right next to it is “The Future,” full of hints and inspiring quotes.
